Zero Energy Ready is a green home certification established by the Department of Energy, and high standards must be met for any home that qualifies!
Zero Energy Ready homes are:
- Comfortable and healthy to live in
- Better for the environment
- Energy efficient with lower monthly energy bills
- Well-built, durable, and long-lasting
BPC Green Builders can build your custom green home to Zero Energy Ready specifications—here are a few of the criteria that these homes must meet:
1. Super-Tight Insulation & Air Sealing
Zero Energy Ready homes minimize heat loss and gain through properly installed high quality insulation and air sealing, making for a more comfortable home.
2. ENERGY STAR Windows & Doors
Low quality and incorrectly installed windows and doors are a common source of indoor drafts and energy waste—at BPC, we use high quality windows and doors and install them the right way.
3. Ductwork with Minimal Energy Waste
Typical duct systems lose 25 to 40% of the energy put out by heating and cooling systems. To minimize this, Zero Energy Ready homes pay close attention to how and where ductwork is installed.
4. High Efficiency Water Heaters and Fixtures
Water heating is one of the biggest sources of energy use in residential buildings, and Zero Energy Ready homes meet strict requirements when it comes to choosing the right equipment for your custom new home.
5. ENERGY STAR Appliances
From heating and cooling to refrigerators, dishwashers, and clothes dryers, every appliance in a Zero Energy Ready home built by BPC Green Builders must meet ENERGY STAR standards, at a minimum.
6. Healthy Indoor Air Quality
All Zero Energy Ready homes must be certified under the EPA Indoor AirPLUS program, making them healthier and safer for your family.
7. Renewable Energy System-Ready
Of course, the most important part of a Zero Energy Ready home is that—with a future upgrade to a renewable energy source—it will become a Net Zero Energy home! This is most often accomplished by adding solar panels.
